* Report by Russia state broadcaster RIA Novosti, re-published here in The Multiplural World, Feb 4, 2026. (This news report was originally published in RIA Novosti on Feb 3, 2026. It is translated to English here below by The Multiplural World using enhanced machine translation.)
MOSCOW— The United States and European countries have agreed to respond militarily to any breach of peace in Ukraine, the Financial Times is reporting. It writes, “A proposal was discussed repeatedly by Ukrainian, European, and American officials in December and January. It envisages a multi-layered response to any violations of the agreed-upon ceasefire,” the publication says. The report states that in the event of a prolonged ceasefire violation, Western countries will send their armed forces to Ukraine.
Russia’s Foreign Ministry has responded stating that any scenario involving the deployment of NATO member states’ troops in Ukraine is categorically unacceptable to Russia and risks a sharp escalation. Statements made in the UK and other European countries about the possibility of deploying a contingent of NATO member states to Ukraine are described by the Ministry as incitement to continued hostilities.
Vladimir Putin has repeatedly emphasized that Moscow advocates exclusively for a long-term settlement without any temporary ceasefires. This can only be achieved after the root causes of the conflict are addressed. These include the threats to national security arising from NATO expansion and the oppression of the Russian-speaking population in Ukraine. (end report)

* Visit of NATO head to Kiev as the imperialist alliance faces defeat of its proxy war in Ukraine, commentary in Russian daily Kommersant, translated to English by RT News, Feb 4, 2026 [NATO is telling Ukraine to prepare for surrender while the imperialist alliance simultaneously talks of continued military provocation against Russia in the form of occupation of Ukrainian lands. The Russian Foreign Ministry has responded to the NATO provocation with a stern warming issued on February 3.]
* Illusions and reckless distractions offered up by liberal imperialist John Mearsheimer, in Feb. 4 interview with YouTube broadcaster Glenn Dieson
[Throughout the 54′ minute interview, Mearsheimer repeats his worn arguments that the Trump regime intends to ‘wreck’ the NATO military alliance which it heads while making peace with the Russian Federation. He refers to the territories (historic Russian lands) taken by Russia since 2022 during its military response to NATO provocations as “annexations”. The same language was used in 2014 following the referendum vote by the people of Crimea to secede from coup Ukraine and join the Russian Federation. Mearsheimer’s longstanding view is that the U.S. government is mistakenly focusing on a military confrontation with the Russian Federation whereas it should instead be focused on economic and military threats against China. Mearsheimer is a leading spokesperson for what is called in academic and government circles in the Western imperialist countries ‘foreign policy realism’. He argues that the NATO proxy war in Ukraine “should have been settled a long time ago”; not because of of its illegal and immoral foundations but because it is “not winnable”. Further: ‘The question of who is to blame for this disaster in Ukraine will come racing to the fore once it is over. The foreign policy elites in the West will argue that it was the Russia and ‘Russian imperialism’ that caused the war. But you and I know better: this war is largely a result of NATO expansion.’]
* Comment by the editors of The Multiplural World:
[Readers of The Multiplural World will recall the naive and reckless claims by most of not-so-alternative media in the West, including ofttimes by the editors of RT News, that the U.S. imperialists seek improved relations with the Russian Federation and, to that end, intend to lessen their role in the NATO imperialist military alliance. These naive and reckless claims go back years and have been stepped up in recent months.
[Included of late in such claims is the idea that the BRICS group of countries, which include subordinate India and comprador Brazil, could help lead the world to a new, multipolar era of peace and equality among peoples and countries. But all the evidence shows that it is China and Russia that will lead such a process, including, of late, with their quickly improving relations with Iran. Organizations such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization as well as new such ones that will arise will be far more crucial for change compared to the stagnant BRICS.
[Is it any wonder there is a full-blown crisis of alternative, anti-imperialist leadership in the Western countries? Left-wing political doctrines in the Western countries, including Marxism, have died on the altar of anti-Russia and anti-China prejudices (combined with longstanding anti-Soviet prejudices). Marxism and other forms of anti-imperialist and anti-capitalist doctrine (for example, anarchism) require nothing less than dismembering then renewal and rebirth. The path to a new world of peace and ecological harmony lies in creating new and novel forms of class political and economic alliances which can guide the world through an anti-imperialist and multipolar era of struggle leading to a truly socialist and better world.]
