Welcome to The Multiplural World, a website publication of global news and analysis founded on anti-imperialist and anti-capitalist beliefs. The website began in April 2024 and is dedicated to publishing and otherwise making known the best news sources for understanding the world of the 21st century.
The present-day world is one of traumatic social and ecological crises, caused by the violent, merciless and degenerate world capitalist order. Humanity confronts three, great existential threats to its existence: rising imperialist militarism and war, rising social and national inequities, and a worsening global warming emergency (as caused by expansionist capitalism). The resistance to all this by the peoples of the world is giving rise to a new and extended, anti-imperialist stage of human development, that is, a ‘multipolar’ world on the path towards socialism. Another term for this new stage, less used, is ‘the multiplural world’; hence the choice of website name The Multiplual World in order that others may lay claim to variants of ‘multipolar’ as their own.
The new website aims to publish the best writings about the state of the world and the socialist alternative that is needed. Socialism is more necessary than ever if humanity is to survive the onslaught by expansionist and globalized capitalism, which is to say financialized imperialism in its most degenerate stage, its final one. The global system of imperialist dominance wrecked the 20th century through its incessant wars and its ecological destruction. Its destructive path remains unchanged and is worsening in the 21st century.
‘Imperialism’ is a vital concept for understanding the world of the 21st century. Arising during the late 19th century, Russian revolutionary leader V.I. Lenin termed ‘imperialism’ as ‘the highest stage of capitalism’, when financial and industrial industries are merged into one beast. This is a world apart from the wrongheaded claims by liberals and leftists in the West that today’s Russian Federation constitutes an ‘imperialist’ country. Even more absurd and departed from Marxist methodology is the claim that today’s socialist People’s Republic of China is on a path to becoming ‘imperialist’.Exactly the opposite is taking place and has being doing so for nearly 30 years. ‘Real’ imperialism is today strangling the entire world in one way or another, dragging the planet down the path of social and environental destruction.
Time is running out for civilized humanity. Humanity must act to mitigate the worst of global warming, while simultaneously fighting to end imperialist war, abolish nuclear weapons, and end poverty. The political/environmental philosophy of ‘degrowth’ offers such a path. Degrowth is an imperative political strategy for achieving a society of social justice and ecological balance.
The Multiplural World will provide Marxist analysis of how the present world of capitalist meltdown can and must be changed, and how humanity can reach a new, post-capitalist stage of human development, that of socialism.
