Scott Ritter (L) and Glenn Diesen discuss the increasing threat of nuclear war in today’s world, on Aug 24, 2026

Interview with former UN nuclear weapons inspector Scott Ritter, re-broadcast here on The Multiplural World, Aug 27, 2026  (with a related interview, and an appeal for nuclear disarmament, further below)

This interview with Scott Ritter was originally broadcast on the YouTube program of Glenn Diesen on August 24, 2026. It is 64 minutes long.

[In the interview, Scott Ritter makes the all-important call for the people of the world to campaign for nuclear arms reduction and eventual elimination. He does neglect to mention the ongoing International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN), website here.

[Much of liberal and left-wing opinion in the Western countries chooses not to campaign for the abolition of nuclear weapons. Why? Out of fear of being labeled ‘pro-Russia’, and due to false and misguided beliefs that Russia shares an equal responsibility with the West for the nuclear war danger. Similar prejudices as regarded the Soviet Union explain why the new political left that arose so dramatically in the Western countries during the 1960s and 1970s failed to place nuclear weapons abolition at the center of its preoccupations.

[The Soviet Union first called for the complete abolition and prohibition of nuclear weapons in June 1946. Soviet diplomat Andrei Gromyko presented this proposal—known as the Gromyko Plan—to the United Nations Atomic Energy Commission. It demanded an immediate international convention to ban the production, stockpiling, and use of atomic weapons, alongside the destruction of all existing arsenals. This initial proposal contrasted with the U.S. Baruch Plan by placing the destruction of weapons before the establishment of intrusive international verification controls. The imperialist powers of the day–U.S., Britain and France; and the smaller Anglo dominions of Canada, Australia and New Zealand–responded to the Soviet proposal with a definitive ‘nyet‘. Thus did the Western powers propel the global nuclear arms race that looms today, horrifyingly, over the fate of humanity.]
