Read at https://multipluralworld.com/ice-is-expanding-mass-incarceration-in-an-authoritarian-united-states-on-the-path-to-fascism/ It is no secret that the United States has the highest incarceration rate in the world among large countries. (see note below) Since the mid-1960s, “prisons, jails and law-enforcement institutions have functioned as a central engine of American inequality,” writes Elizabeth Hinton in her 2016 book From the War on Poverty to the War on Crime: The Making of Mass Incarceration in America. #capitalism #imperialism #poverty #incarceration #ice #democracy #racism #racist #Trump

This is a powerful interview in which Professor Marandio describes wartime conditions in #Tehran and the profound changes taking place in the outlooks of the Iranian people as a result of the attacks by genocidal #Israel, supported and armed as it is by genocide regimes in power in the imperialist West. Professor Marandio says the rising pressures on the #Trump 2.0 regime to, on the one hand, become more directly involved in Israel’s war and, on the other hand, to be wary of such involvement are evidence that #apartheid Israel’s grim and cruel war is failing. With good fortune and determination, the apartheid regime’s days are numbered. He also points to the example of the @nato proxy war in #Ukraine, where so much money and military equipment has been supplied to the far-right, coup regime in power in Kiev, but to no avail. “#nato is losing its proxy war and now they are throwing away like a dirty dish rag the proxy regime in Kiev”. While Europe swept its streets and held its parade
While Europe swept its streets and held its parades following 1945, colonized peoples across the African continent watched with a different kind of hope. For them, Victory Day was not just about the fall of Hitler. It was about the idea that brutal regimes could fall at all. The whitewashed myths of European superiority, fortified by tanks and treaties, could be buried after all, in this case buried in the rubble of Berlin. The collective wisdom of the Internet has calculated that the United States has been at war 92% of the time during its existence, or 225 years out of 243. These calculations are hardly flawless from a methodological point of view, but few would question the thesis that the United States is in a nearly permanent state of war. Former World Bank advisor and current professor at Columbia University Jeffrey #Sachs has issued a new essay titled ‘Negotiating a lasting brace in #Ukraine’. The essay was originally published in Common Dreams on March 6, 2025 and was quickly re-published in Consortium News on the same date. The essay continues Sachs’ divisive role in confusing and covering up the origin of the current military conflict in #ukraine, which has been caused by the violence and aggression of a declining, imperialist world order. Events in the Middle East indicate that Israel has little desire for peace talks and rather conducts them formally, without considering diplomacy as a primary tool. This approach obviously comes directly from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and it is his political views that determine Israel’s strategy. As the @nato proxy war in Ukraine winds down, the full import of the defeat of the #NATO countries by the Russian Federation is taking shape and becoming fully visible. Mainstream news sources in the West will continue to be completely unreliable for understanding what is taking place. Meanwhile, reliable, alternative news sources of #ukraine are drying up as many of them have gotten carried away by bizarre and naïve claims that the #Trump regime in #Washington offers a new path of ‘peace’ and ‘reason’ in world affairs. It will also be a place that connects the opposing sides with mutual commercial interests, which could act to defuse further escalation of confrontation. At least in this part of the world. This essay originally appeared in Scheer Post on January 13, 2025. In it, Chris #hedges provides a harsh but necessary overview of the rampant expansion and destruction of the Earth’s #ecology by industrial #capitalism during the past century and more. Capitalist expansionism has irrevocably altered the climate and many other features of Earth’s biosphere by generating rises in #greenhousegas emissions and associated rises in global temperatures. These are now unstoppable so long as capitalism remains the dominant economic order in the world.
