Israeli historian Illan Pappe spoke on May 5, 2012 to a public forum in Vancouver of 200 people on the topic, “Palestine and the false paradigm of peace.”

A paradigm is a set of assumptions through which one interprets a reality. The dominant “paradigm” of which Pappe spoke is that which inteprets the ongoing assault and dispossession by Israel against the Palestinian people as one of two national movements engaged in an intractable conflict whose resolution, moreover, requires the formation of two seperate and independent “states.”

You can watch the extremely informative, 40-minute talk delivered by Dr. Pappe, followed by a discussion period of 45 minutes.

An Israeli historian, Dr. Pappe is currently a professor at the College of Social Sciences and International Studies at the University of Exeter in the UK. He is also director of the university’s European Center for Palestine Studies and co-director of the Exeter Center for Ethno-Political Studies. He obtained his PhD in history from the University of Oxford. Dr. Pappe spoke in Vancouver as part of a seven city tour across Canada hosted by Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East in May.
