*  Kurdish armed forces in eastern Syria confirm ongoing cooperation with NATO USA in naive hopes that it will slow NATO-member Turkiye’s proxy war in Syria. Reference: News report in RUDAW Kurdish news outlet, Dec 6, 2024  [The Russian government has for years urged the Syrian government and the U.S.-allied Kurdish forces in eastern and northern Syria to cooperate in building a renewed Syria. Russia has urged the Syrian government to consider ammending its constitution to provide for autonomous rights for the country’s Kurdish population, who number some 2.5 million out of 25 million Syrians in total. In NATO-member Turkiye, Kurds number some 13 to 14 milion out of 82 million in total. For decades, Turkiye has waged a quasi-genocidal war against its Kurdish population. Today it is waging a proxy invasion of Syria, seeking to overthrow the Syrian government. Here is an analysis of fraught Kurdish-Syria relations published in September 2022 by analyst Elijah Magnier. And here is a reminder from a 2017 essay written by a researcher in Kazahkstan: “Russia has put forward a draft constitution for a future Syria that grants the Kurds greater administrative freedoms within a more decentralized secular government, with Kurdish becoming an official language along with the Arabic in the areas predominantly populated by the ethnic Kurds.” ]
