Jacobin publishes absurd anti-China screed comparing China’s treatment of the Uyghur Muslim population to the historic genocide of the Indigenous populations of North America. Excerpt from interview with Sean R. Roberts, published in Jacobin, April 29, 2021. (The published interview is titled ‘Demanding an end to Uyghur oppression’.)
Jacobin: Media outlets have often labelled the forced labor camps as “the largest internment of an ethnic group since the Second World War.” The historical parallel you draw in the book, however, is not with the Holocaust but with the destruction of indigenous communities in the United States, Canada, and Australia in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

One dose of a Covid vaccine can almost halve transmission, study by Public Health England finds, CNBC, Apr 28, 2021
Related: Those who contracted Covid-19 between vaccine doses urge caution, Washington Post, Apr 28, 2021 The cases are a reminder that vaccines need time to offer full protection and virus is still circulating widely …Based on a Washington Post analysis of data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, The Post estimates about 21,000 of 470,000 people who tested positive for coronavirus for the week ending April 25 already had their first dose… Experts warn that these cases should not be interpreted as evidence that vaccines don’t work. The immune system needs several weeks to provide robust protection as the body learns the blueprint for stopping the virus before it can cause serious disease. Like billionaire-controlled media, The Guardian misinforms its readers on the UK’s role in world, by Mark Curtis, published by the ‘Declassified UK’ project in The Daily Maverick (South Africa), Apr 26, 2021 Millions of its readers believe The Guardian offers critical, independent reporting that is different to the right-wing, billionaire-controlled UK media. Trotskyist ‘Counterfire’ group in Britain falsifies the history of the right-wing coup in Ukraine in 2014. [The Counterfire website publishes on April 23 a timeline of events in and around Ukraine during the past three decades. Writer Chris Nineham writes, “March 2014: Russian troops enter Crimea, Crimea is annexed after a local referendum.” and “April 2014: Fighting starts between western Ukrainian forces and pro-Russian forces in the Donbass region leading to more than 14,000 deaths.” As my essay published on April 23 details, the accusation of a Russian ‘annexation’ of Crimea in 2014 is false. In addition, the writer’s use of the term ‘pro-Russian’ to describe the pro-autonomy forces in Donbas (formerly eastern Ukraine) is also false. Like the term ‘separatist’, ‘pro-Russian’ is a pejorative term biased against Rusia whick covers up the aggression by the Ukrainian government and NATO against the people of Donbas. The writer uses the term ‘fighting’ to describe the conflict in Donbas; this is another term that covers up the crimes of the Ukrainian government and its NATO backers. The ‘fighting’ in Donbas, in reality, is a case of Ukrainian and NATO aggression against the people there, denying their right to political self-determination.–Roger Annis]

Much of the U.S. is relying almost exclusively on vaccines to control the virus, abandoning social distancing and other safety measures. That’s helping the virus to steadily gain ground even as vaccinations barrel ahead. The U.S. averaged roughly 71,000 new cases per day over the past week, about a nine per cent jump from the week before.

U.S. and allies say they will withdraw their troops from Afghanistan by September 11, 2021. It must be true, because they say so. [Western media is full of stories of the claim by the Biden regime in Washington that it plans a withdrawal of U.S. combat troops from Afghanistan. The German and British governments have joined the performance with their own withdrawal announcements in parallel with the U.S., while NATO itself says it has joined the parade. It all ranks right up there with the NATO countries’ promises to ‘do something’ about global warming, all the while escalating threats against China and Russia and letting a coronavirus pandemic run riot. In the real world, NATO military leaders are planning how to boost their war and illegal occupation in Afghanistan (see New York Times report immediately below).].

The China-based foreigners defending Beijing from Xinjiang genocide claims, news report in South China Morning Post, Mar 30, 2021 [This news report is intended to discredit commentary by China-based foreigners who are defending the Chinese people and government against hostile propaganda and military threats from the West. But the report’s effect is the opposite.].
…Li Xing, a professor of international relations at Aalborg University in Denmark who grew up in China, says he frequently watches pro-China content creators because they often show what life is like on the ground, providing first-hand knowledge of the country… He cites Daniel Dumbrill’s YouTube broadcasting in what he calls the one-sidedness of Western media reports on Xinjiang. Dunbrill has cited Danish journalists who frequently approached him for comment on China-related issues but, “Whenever I tell Danish journalists that there is no genocide in Xinjiang they just stop contacting me.” While Li says he is critical of some Chinese government policies – such as its strict controls on speech and press freedoms – he believed ascribing the label of ‘genocide’ in Xinjiang does not reflect the complex relationship between Uygur Muslims and the Chinese state. He highlights the Uygurs’ exemption from the one-child policy and affirmative action in university entrance examinations as a few examples of how China could not be perpetuating genocide… “While there are people in China who think there are problems in the way China has handled Xinjiang, the moment they hear the BBC say there is ‘genocide’ happening, they become so angry that they lose all will to criticise the Chinese government.”
