UN inspectors leave Kiev heading to Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, RT, Aug 31, 2022 …IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi told reporters that the inspectors intend to spend “a few days” at the plant and will report back afterwards. But local authorities said on August 30 that the IAEA mission in Energodar – the city where the ZNPP is located and which is in the part of Zaporozhye region controlled by Russian forces – is expected to last only one day…
[According to RIA Novosti, citing Ukrainian sources, the IAEA delegation arrived in the city of Zaporozhye on Augusut 31. The city is located some 60 km north and east of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant on the opposite side of the Dniepier (Dnipro) River reservoir.
[The Kiev regime and Western media have widely broadcast a claim of a ‘Ukrainian counteroffensive’ newly launched in the Kherson region along the Black Sea coastline. That announcement coincided with news of the IAEA mission to the ZNPP. Ukraine and its Western patrons have for months opposed such an inspection delegation.]
The majority of Ukrainian refugees are fleeing to Russia, by Deborah Armstrong, published on her website page on Medium.com, Aug 25, 2022 It may come as a shock to those following mainstream news in the West to learn that the majority of Ukrainians leaving the country are fleeing to Russia. On top of that, many Ukrainian prisoners of war do not want to be returned to their home country. This would be shocking to the masses who rely on corporate-run junk news and are therefore unaware. Yet it is exactly what is happening, and the United Nations has even puplilshes the numbers to prove it…

Days after approving another $3 billion for Ukraine war, U.S. says no more money for free Covid tests, Common Dreams, Aug 29, 2022
Related: The missing ‘peace’ in $13.5 billion of U.S. military aid to Ukraine, by Marcy Winograd (Democrats of America), published in Common Dreams, Aug 31, 2022 (Marcy Winograd is the director of CodePink Congress.) …We cannot call for peace in Ukraine while simultaneously supplying that country with advanced rocket systems and missiles that could lead to a direct war between the US and Russia, the world’s most heavily armed nuclear nations… [As signalled by the news article and commentary above, the liberal Common Dreams continues to walk back its support to NATO’s proxy war against Russia. There are no rote condemnations of Russia’s intervention in Ukraine in the two items, just serious analysis of how peace may come about in Ukraine].
Previously reported: The West’s dangerously simple-minded narrative about Russia and China, commentary by Jeffrey Sachs, published in Common Dreams, Aug 23, 2022 [This commentary blames the U.S. government for policies that have sparked Russia’s defensive military intervention in Ukraine. Of note is that the commentary is published in Common Dreams, a ‘NATO socialist’ outlet that accuses Russia of acting illegally and immorally in its intervention to demilitarize and denazify Ukraine. Are the editors of Common Dreams now rethinking their pro-NATO stand? On August 23, Common Dreams published an article condemning the world’s four largest grain marketing companies–three in the U.S., one in France–for worsening the food and hunger crisis in the world. Here is another departure from the Western media and governments ‘blame Russia’ narrative. Note that world food prices as measured by the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations declined in July 2022 for the fourth month in a row.]

IAEA support and assistance mission sets out to Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine, media release by the International Atomic Energy Agency, Aug 29, 2022
[This IEAE media release continues the practice by the agency in its media releases of exclusively relaying the views of the governing regime in Kiev, even though the safety of the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant has been provided by Russian armed forces together with existing plant staff for more than six months now. The Ukraine regime has no role in the operation of the plant, except to endanger its safety with reckless and criminal shelling. This practice of relaying Kiev’s viewpoint on the ZNPP has been de rigeur in corporate and state media in Western countries for the past six months. The Washington Post adds a new twist to the already outlandish claim that Russia is shelling the plant and the nearby city of Energodar. The Post relays on August 29 Ukraine’s false claim that it has been shelling in the area of the nuclear plant because Russia is conducting its shelling from there. As though this is not only a true story but even acceptable conduct under the circumstances!]
U.S. media ignored major anti-U.S. military protest in South Korea, by Tim Shorrock, published in Responsible Statecraft, Aug 23, 2022 Fake news about Kim Jong-Un gets wall-to-wall coverage in U.S. media , but when thousands of Korean citizens marched in Seoul on August 14 to oppose a reckless military exercise with the U.S., this goes largely unnoticed. Amazingly, not a word about the protest appeared in the U.S. media.

The ‘double genocide’ theory equating the Soviet Union with Nazi Germany is the new and official form of genocide denial, by Dovid Katz, A Socialist In Canada, Aug 28, 2022 (first published in Jewish Currents, issue of autumn 2017)
Brief introduction by A Socialist In Canada: This essay was first published in 2017, nearly five years ago. But the subject matter could not be more current as the governments in Ukraine and in the NATO-member Baltic republics continue to rewrite their own countries’ respective histories with foul, anti-Russia and anti-Soviet themes. These favour those who collaborated with Nazi Germany during World War Two in waging the Holocaust against European Jews. The NATO governments in western Europe and North America have quietly participated for a long time in the rewriting of this part of the history of the Holocaust. They have whitewashed and otherwise distorted the history of those who collaborated with Nazi Germany. They protect those who continue to spew revisionist versions of the history of Nazi and neo-Nazi ideology. Further below, see two related readings.]

How the Washington Post crafts its lying reports on the threats to the nuclear power plant in Zaporozhye, Ukraine
[In its latest ‘news’ report on August 15 responding to Ukraine’s provocative attacks against the Zaporozhye NPP, the Washington Post writers and editors describe the plant as “the nuclear facility that Russia has used as a shield for its attacks in recent weeks”. This version of events is more palatable to unknowing consumers of its product compared to the earlier, absurd claims that Russia was attacking the facility (whose very security it has controlled since March) outright. But many embers of the earlier wave of lies are still very much smouldering–we also read, “Russia is laying the groundwork for a ‘false flag’ attack [against the ZNPP] which it will blame on Ukrainian forces.” The Post choice of language ‘normalizes’ lies and absurd claims, such as this sentence: “In terms of Russia’s immediate ground offensive, there appears to be little strategic advantage to its bombardment from the nuclear plant, other than spreading fear by dragging the plant into the conflict.” Do you see, reader, how the false claim of Russia ‘bombarding’ the ZNPP becomes ‘normalized’ into fact through the use of sly language? Here is another such example among many in the Post report: “It was a month ago, on July 16, that the first volley of artillery from Russian troops based in Enerhodar rained down on Nikopol, across the water.” Enerhodar is the town site adjacent to the ZNPP where plant staff live.
[The goal of Western media propaganda over the ZNPP is to create a clamour for ‘international’ military intervention to wrest control of the ZNPP from Russia. The Post article sub-headline intends to strike fear as it turns reality on its head: ‘Russian occupation of Ukrainian nuclear plant raises fear of a catastrophe’. But the propaganda has failed miserably to generate momentum for such intervention. The lying doesn’t entirely pass the test of credibility.]

Boycott! Obfuscate! Western media responds to Amnesty International report condemning Ukraine for using schools and hospitals as bases for military operations. [Most Western media has simply boycotted the Amnesty Int’l report, issued on August 4, 2022 (see headline news story immediately below). A rare exception is in the anti-Russia Guardian, but its ‘unique’ approach to the Amnesty report is a ‘news’ story co-authored by the notorious propagandist Luke Harding that is filled with denials by Ukrainian officials. In a credibility contest between Amnesty International and the far-right governing and military officials in Kyiv, The Guardian easily and comfortably chooses the latter. Associated Press is another example of a Western media outlet whose report simply echoes the denials of the Kyiv regime and its Western backers.]
Ukrainian fighting tactics endanger civilians, investigative report by Amnesty International, published on the website of Amnesty International, Aug 4, 2022 [The report details a widespread practice by the Ukrainian military of conducting military operations inside of, or adjacent to, schools, hospitals and residential areas, in “clear violation of international humanitarian law”. The report also states: “The Ukrainian military’s practice of locating military objectives within populated areas does not in any way justify indiscriminate Russian attacks. All parties to a conflict must at all times distinguish between military objectives and civilian objects and take all feasible precautions, including in choice of weapons, to minimize civilian harm.” The Ukraine government and military have declined a request by Amnesty Int’l. to respond to its report.].

The provocative visit by Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan could get us all killed, by Norman Solomon, Common Dreams, Aug 2, 2022 and read: news report in Common Dreams, Aug 2, 2022
[Norman Solomon is a liberal, antiwar writer at the liberal, ‘antiwar’ (and anti-Russia) Common Dreams. In this otherwise informative essay, Solomon warns that China may unleash nuclear weapons against Western countries threatening it. He writes, “China has several hundred nuclear weapons ready to use, while the United States has several thousand.” But China, like the Russian government, has sworn off the use of nuclear weapons unless directly threatened. (see Note below) So who is ‘ready’ to use the weapons, exactly? The U.S., too, says it would never carry out a nuclear attack. But that will be news to the people of Japan, who were attacked twice in 1945 by the United States. And to the people of Korea, who were threatened with nuclear weapons during the quasi-genocidal America War in Korea from 1950 to 1953. President Richard Nixon carefully considered the use of nuclear weapons against the people of Vietnam during the American War against that country. Today, the United States and its allies in NATO and the Pacific region have steadfastly refused the demand of the international movement for nuclear weapons disarmament to sign the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. The treaty was approved by the UN General Assembly in July 2017 with 122 States in favour, one against and one abstention (opponents of the treaty boycotted the General Assembly meeting). The treaty entered into force in January 2021 with 86 signatories (support the treaty and willing to continue engagement with the treaty process) and 60 states parties (signed, and consent to be bound by the treaty).]
Note: Alexander Trofimov, Russia’s envoy to the UN nonproliferation review conference underway in New York, speaking on Tuesday, August 2, as reported in RT:
“We would also like to strongly reject the utterly unfounded, detached from reality and unacceptable speculations that Russia allegedly threatens to use nuclear weapons, particularly in Ukraine,” Trofimov said on Tuesday, using the right of reply to address the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) review conference in New York.
Russia’s nuclear doctrine is “explicitly clear,” envisioning their use only to attacks involving weapons of mass destruction or a conventional aggression endangering the state’s existence, Trofimov said. “Neither of these two hypothetical scenarios is relevant to the situation in Ukraine.”
The Russian diplomat condemned “unscrupulous interpretations” of Moscow’s decision to put its nuclear deterrent on alert earlier this year, saying the grounds for it were “confrontational actions and provocative statements by representatives of Western nuclear powers about the possibility of NATO interference in military actions in Ukraine against Russia.”…
